Align| Straighten| Flip| Fit| Stack

This panel is all about tweaking your edges and islands and creating the layout you need and making it easier to texture. It has tools designed to straighten, align, flip, fit, and distribute your islands. Tool usage is, of course, dependent on your current Selection Mode, but most of them work in most modes:

Straighten

The following items will need Vertex (F1) or Edge (F2) mode to be active:

Straighten

Straightens selected vertexes or edges
Shortcut: Ctrl-Shift-A

Verticalize (yes, that IS a word!)

Vertically straightens and aligns selected edges or vertices
Shortcut: Shift-V

Horizontalize

Horizontally straightens and aligns selected edges or vertexes
Shortcut: Shift-H

Parallelize Edges

Straightens and aligns selected edges This means that it will straighten and align them based on their location, be it at an angle, horizontal or vertical, and not a pre-defined direction
Shortcut: Alt-W

The following items will need Polygon (F3) or Island(F4) mode to be active.:

Please note Rectangularise is created for quad meshes - if you try this on triangulated models, they will look very messy.

Rectagularise Polygons Horizontal

Gives the selected polygons or island a rectangular shape and orients the resulting polys or islands horizontally. This may be at the cost of some distortion
Shortcut: Ctrl-Shift-H

Rectangularize Polygons Vertical

Gives the selected polygons or island a rectangular shape and orients the resulting polys or island vertically, This may be at the cost of some distortion
Shortcut: Ctrl-Shift-V

Rectangularize Polygons

Gives the selected polygons or island a rectangular shape and won't set a direction
Shortcut: Ctrl-Shift-W

Enable Use Pixel Fit

Use Pixel Fit will fit your items to your map's pixel resolution. You set the Pixel Resolution in the Layout Panel->Map Rez, should you want to use Pixels rather than the default or custom grid.

Enable Use Multi-Fits

This option will fit each selected island or a selected and connected group of primitives rather than treating the entire selection as a single element.

Fit to grid

Whereas Snap to Grid automatically aligns your items to the grid based on your defined settings, Fit to Grid is the manual, non-snapped version of this, as you sometimes just need some items to fit, and not all of them.

Fit to Grid Expand to Fit

Fits the bounding box consisting of your selected islands or groups to the grid. This option will potentially enlarge the size of your islands or groups when fitting them to the grid, as the command tells RizomUV to fit the islands into a larger area of the grid.

Fit to Grid Reduce to Fit

Fits the bounding box consisting of your selected islands to the grid. This option will potentially reduce the size of your islands or groups when fitting them to the grid, as the command tells RizomUV to fit the islands into a smaller area of the grid.

Fit to Grid Closest Fit

Fits the bounding box consisting of your selected islands or groups to the grid. This option will potentially enlarge OR reduce your islands or groups when fitting them to the grid, as the command tells RizomUV to fit the items to the nearest grid points.

Flip

In a UV space context, flipped - also called inverted - means that normals face downward in UV Space. Flipped normals are often shown as black in other applications. RizomUV shows them as blue.

These flips are not always what you want or need, so the Flip tools are primarily aimed at flipping these normals, even though you can also use them for "vanilla" items.

As explained elsewhere, RizomUV sometimes uses invisible polygons and boxes to make things work. RizomUV uses invisible (bounding) boxes surrounding your selection(s) to flip items correctly.

Flip Horizontal Left

Flips the selection horizontally, to the left. It uses the left side of the (invisible) bounding box as the flip axis.

Flip Horizontal

Flips the selection horizontally

Flip Horizontal Right

Flips the selection horizontally, to the right. It uses the right side of the (invisible) bounding box as the flip axis.

Flip Vertical Top

Flips the selection vertically to the top. It uses the top side of the (invisible) bounding box as the flip axis.

Flip Vertical

Flips your selection vertically

Flip Vertical Bottom

Flips the selection vertically to the bottom. It uses the bottom of the (invisible) bounding box as the flip axis.

Flip Dropdown:

Local

Your items will be flipped independently, on a per-group or island basis.

Global

Your items will be put in a big, invisible box and be flipped as if they are in one.

Tile

Your items' flipping axis will be based on the tile geometry of the current selection.

Stack Symmetry

Symmetry needs to be active for this to work:

Stack Symmetrical On Master

Stacks all symmetrical parts (islands) on the first selected island in Symmetry mode.

Stack Symmetrical On Slave

Stacks all symmetrical parts (islands) on the unselected islands in Symmetry mode.

Align

Align works very much like in other tools, from Max to Photoshop. It aligns vertexes, edges, polygons and islands. It also has a crush function, which uses the align tools to crush an island into a single line where applicable based on the alignment direction.

Align Crush Mode Enable Crush Selection

Crush uses the align tools to crush an island into a single line where applicable, based on the direction of the alignment you pick from the Align buttons.

Align Left

Aligns your selected items to the leftmost item's left edge in the selection

Align Horizontal

Aligns your selected items horizontally (it will center the selection's islands on top of each other)

Align Right

Aligns your selected items to the rightmost item's right edge in the selection

Align Top

Aligns your selected items to the topmost item's top edge in the selection

Align Vertical

Aligns your selected items vertically

Align Bottom

Aligns your selected items to the lowest edge of the lowest item in your selection

Align Islands

Align matching Islands to Edge

Aligns the outer edges of the cut and separate(d) islands to their respectively cut edges. So if you cut an island in two and select one edge, clicking this button will bring the opposite island's matching edge close to the selected edge. It's also a handy tool for rotating islands.

Align Island Horizontally to Selection

Aligns island(s) horizontally based on your selection.

Align Island Vertically to Selection

Aligns island(s) vertically based on your selection.

Distribute

Distribute Left

Distributes your selection horizontally to the left

Distribute Center Horizontally

Distributes your selection to a common horizontal center

Distribute Right

Distributes your selection horizontally to the right

Distribute Top

Distributes your selection vertically to the top

Distribute Center Vertically

Distributes your selection to a common vertical center

Distribute Bottom

Distributes your selection vertically to the bottom

Distribution Space

Distribute Vertically

Distributes your selection on a vertical axis with the spacing you define

Distribute Horizontally

Distributes your selection on a horizontal axis with the spacing you define

Distribution Mode: Average

Distributes your selected items evenly, based on the average available space between your selected items.

Distribution Mode: Real Units

Lets you distribute your selected items by setting the spacing between them in Real (UV) Unit coordinates in 0,1 space.

Distribution Mode: Pixels

Lets you distribute your selected items by setting the spacing between them in pixels.

Vertex Group

Distribute as vertex group

Turn this on, especially when you are in Vertex Mode and want your vertices to move uniformly.

When disabled, each vertex will be moved independently.
